AirTran Wants To Fly To Cuba
(April 26) With talks of lifting tourism restrictions in Cuba underway, AirTran Airways has announced that they want to be one of the first airlines to operate in and out of the island.Last Monday, President Obama lifted restrictions on travel and money transfers on Cuban-Americans. Already, companies are looking to expand into the Cuban markets, finding potential for growth in telephone and Internet services, satellite TV and radio, and hotels and airlines.
Chief Executive, Bob Fornaro, says, “It’s a very pretty country, and the curiosity level as well as the ethic flying back and forth is going to be substantial.”
At the same time, both Fornaro and John Kavulich, senior policy adviser of the U.S. – Cuba Trade and Economic Council agree that opening doors to Cuban tourism could take a while.
Fornaro sums up the situation, “There’s a couple of things to consider with Cuba. What’s the quality of facilities and the hotels? How much tourism can it take? … A lot of development needs to occur.”
